Hyssop essential oil (Hyssopus officinalis) is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves and flower buds of the plant, known for its intense, clean and strong aroma. Part of the Lamiaceae family, which also includes mint and lavender, hyssop is a sacred and spiritual plant, valued since antiquity for its power of purification and inner healing.
The name Hyssop comes from the Hebrew "azob", which means "holy grass", being mentioned among the 12 main oils in Scripture. In ancient times, it was used in rituals and temples as a purifying agent, a symbol of the purity of the soul and spiritual renewal.
In Ayurveda, Hyssop oil is recommended for supporting the respiratory system - helping in case of colds, coughs or asthma - due to its tonic and expectorant properties. It is used only diluted in a vegetable oil in a liquid form or cosmetic product (about 2 drops of essential oil per 10ml of product). How to use:
- as a massage oil: mix 15 drops in 30ml carrier oil, such as jojoba, avocado or almond and massage the skin or scalp with it
- in the hot tub: put 10-15 drops together with a cup of Epsom or Himalayan salt
- as a diffuser blend: we add 6 drops of Lavender essential oil, 3 drops of Jasmine, 3 drops of Ylang Ylang, 3 drops of Hyssop and 2 drops of Geranium, to bring spring to our homes.
