Vanilla Essential Oil comes from an exotic orchid, Vanilla planifolia, native to Central America and Mexico.
This is the only orchid species widely cultivated for its aroma. Traditionally, vanilla was considered a sacred ingredient by the Aztec civilizations, used both in rituals and for its effects on the emotional and sensory state. Today, vanilla is cultivated in tropical regions with warm and humid climates, such as Madagascar (Bourbon), Réunion, Indonesia and Tahiti.
